  Abstract	From the Western Literacy Messenger Vol X, No. 4 - 1848 Henry Hyslop was born in 1819 in Pike, NY. Probably the son of Alfred Hyslop Jr., he married Abigail Slaght around 1850. Throughout the 1840s he was a member of a notorious gang that was stealing horses from an Indian Reservation near Buffalo. His capture and sentencing was reported in the Western Literary Messenger in 1848. The 1850 Federal Census shows him to be an inmate at Auburn Prison in Cayuga, NY.
